La Haye Point Lighthouse
Point La Haye (Or La Haye Point) is situated on the east side of St. Mary's bay, and was a town involved mainly in the inshore cod fishery throughout the 1800s. An 8.5 metre cast iron tower was erected at the site in 1883, one which was very similar to most cast iron lighthouses built in Newfoundland at the end of the 19th century.
A fog alarm was added to the light station in 1925 primarily to help serve navigation to and from St. Mary's Harbour. By 1963, the original light and keepers dwellings were torn down and replaced with a combination fog alarm and light building, and two single story dwellings, all painted with horizontal red and white bands.
In 1988, this structure too was demolished and replaced by a skeletal pyramidal tower. after less than 10 years of operation however this tower as demolished yet again and replaced with a square skeletal tower which stands today.
