Fermeuse (Bear Cove Point) Lighthouse

The original light station at Bear Cove Point was built in 1913, consisting of a keepers dwelling, a fog alarm building, and the light itself, all of which made of wooden construction. In 1918, the steamer Florizel would run aground a short distance south from the light station, with over 90 perishing in the disaster. A second officer aboard the ship reported seeing the light sometime around 3AM, however this claim remained unsubstantiated.

In 1961, the old structure was torn down and replaced by a lattice tower of metal construction, attached was a prominent red board with a horizontal white stripe serving as the visual aid. Over the coming decades, the station was converted to electricity, and the need for the keepers was dwindling, before the station was finally destaffed in the 1980s. In 2012, the metal tower was also taken down and replaced by a modern skeletal tower. (The lighthouse depicted on the website is the 1961 structure)
