Bay Bulls (Bull Head) Lighthouse
Built in 1906, and officially lit in 1908, the Bay Bulls (Or Bull Head) lighthouse is situated between the lights at Ferryland and Cape Spear respectively, intended to serve as a coast light to guide ships along the shore. The tower was originally connected to a keepers dwelling by means of a covered passage however only the tower remains standing today.
Bay Bulls first started to appear on maps in the late 1500s, and was attacked by the French on numerous occasions throughout the 1700s. During the Second World War Bay Bulls was chosen as the location of a marine dockyard that would repair smaller naval vessels so that they could be put back out into the fight for the Atlantic.
